A BEAUTIFUL WORLD
         ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2007    - Close Poem

We live in an interesting world with interesting people, we have only one life so live it to the fullest. Trust and love God, hold on to your dreams, be faithful to your convictions and do as much good as you possible can to those around you. Do not be arrogant or forceful but at the same time bow to no man and let none intimidate you. Know who you are and where you are in the scheme of things: you are a child of the living God, dedicated and covenanted to him alone even before you left your mother’s womb. He is your God and your strength, he is awesome in battle and true to his word and will not allow you to fail, to fall or to be ashamed. He has a mission and a purpose for you in this difficult, lonely and often times cruel world. The challenge is to identify that purpose and to fulfil it in a glorious way, yet despite the ugly storms of life let your resolve be strong: to live for God and to be a blessing to all those around you and if nothing else remember this: that he loves you, that you are very special to him and that you are destined to achieve greatness.

Take hold of your beautiful destiny and espouse it’s great promise to the fullest. Let it be written in the holy books before the oracles of time. Let love and forgiveness be your banner. Let the earth, the wind, the fire and all the elemental forces of the cosmos confirm your greatness and protect your precious soul. Let all that hate you bow before you and let the spirit of Jehovah, the author and finisher of our faith be with you all the days of your life. Live long and prosper, most important of all hold on to your dreams, hold on to your peace and be happy. May the God of peace show you the way and may his angels guard you and all that is yours jealously night and day. God bless you now and always.

A PRAYER FOR THE BELIEVER
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2008    - Close Poem

The Lord will guide you and protect you through this year and beyond. He will make his face to shine upon you. Your feet shall not slip and neither shall you suffer want. You shall live long and prosper and your joy shall be full. You shall not be cut short because long life is your portion. The Lord shall give you the fat of the land and a place of honour in the land. You shall increase. The Lord shall enlarge your coast and he shall exalt your horn. The seductions and evil of this world will not overwhelm you and neither will they consume you. The Lord shall guide you in all your ways and deliver you from the hands of the wicked one and his agents. You shall rise up to greater heights than you can possibly imagine and neither shall you ever suffer want, shame or defeat. Before your very eyes you shall see the recompense of the wicked and those that seek your hurt and wish you to go astray. You will excel in your work and studies and the Lord will grant you joy everlasting. Because you have honoured Him in all your ways your days will be long and His blessing shall never depart from you. The love of God and his grace and mercy shall walk with you all the days of your life and his angels shall guard you jealously both night and day. May God bless and keep you now and always and may this year and beyond be great in your life and in your family. You are simply wonderful; a great blessing from a great God. You will never be ashamed but rather like a well-watered garden, you will be fruitful and productive. You will flourish forever and neither shall your leaves ever wither. Your pockets shall never run dry for the Lord will grant you plenty and he will cause rivers to flow through your desert places.

His precious anointing and Holy Spirit shall never depart from you and his peace and favour shall cover you all the days of your life. I soak your body, spirit and soul in the precious blood of the sprinkling; the blood of the Holy one of Israel, the lion of the tribe of Judah, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, son of the Living God. I commit you into the hands and power of the God of heaven and into the presence and power of he who came down as God incarnate in the flesh. May the deep mysteries of his precious blood speak for you at the gates and fight for you in every circumstance touching and concerning your life. Go forth into the world and the new year boldly with your head held up high knowing who you are and knowing that you serve a mighty God. Because of him you are safe and sound and you cannot be defeated. Because of him everything that you set your hands to do that is in accordance with his will , shall meet with good success. Give him the praise and glory in all things and remember always that he loves you more than life itself. God bless and keep you and all that is yours now and always. We serve a mighty God so go forth into the world in his strength and in his power. Take dominion and conquer, be courageous and be strong and most important of all be thankful and be happy: for in the end he makes all things beautiful. Faithful, mighty and true, that is his name. Have a great year and may God be with you and yours now and always.

FOR REGINA, REMI AND FOLAKE
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2008    - Close Poem

Tears are flowing down my cheeks as I am writing these words because the pressure for me to succeed is so high. So many are looking up to me for strength, support and leadership that I dare not fail: My loved ones, my children and so many relations, friends and associates. Even the nation expects so much from me. Yet it is a privilege and indeed my pleasure and duty to be honoured and saddled with such a role and such great expectations. And despite my many imperfections I will not fail because my God is faithful. He has put you all under me for a reason and I thank Him for each and everyone of you each and every day. You are, each and every one, so pure, so good and so precious to me. The evil of this world will never afflict you and neither shall you suffer want or infirmity. Your joy shall know no bounds because you have shown me and mine love and kindness.

Your numerous and selfless sacrifices and prayers for me and your faith in God and in me shall speak for you at the gates all the days of your life. You shall live long, you shall prosper, you shall be fruitful and most important of all you shall continuously experience "that peace which passeth all understanding". The future is bright and our collective destiny as a family is secure. Our children and our children's children shall speak for us now and always. They shall be our pride and joy and none shall harm them. God bless you child of God and always remember that the Lord lovesyou more than life itself: and so do I. We shall prevail. Shalom..

AS THE LORD LIVES
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2008    - Close Poem

I will not be destroyed. I will not fail. I will not be defeated. I will not be weak. I will not be ashamed. I will not die. I will not be sick. I will not be disgraced. I will not suffer want. I will not be powerless. I will not be poor. I will not be denied. I will not loose the anointing. I will not drive away the Holy Spirit from my life, home or marriage. I will not loose my peace. I will not loose my joy. I will not loose my blessings. I will not loose my freedom. And neither will my wife or my children or any member of my household.

Every promise that the Lord has made to me and mine and every prophecy that He has pronounced through His servants concerning our future shall surely come to pass. The Lord will restore all that the enemy and his agents have stolen from us and he will strike down our enemies forever. He will utterly consume them with His fire and He will wipe them off the face of this earth.

There shall be none to remember their names and their souls shall burn in hell forever. Those of us whom they feel that they have destroyed shall rule over them and utterly shame them and theirs. Whether near or far, within or without or whether known or unknown, their end has finally come. It has already been decreed and determined. As the Lord lives so it shall be.

A TRIBUTE TO MY WIFE, REGINA: DAUGHTER OF ZION
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2008    - Close Poem

O child of God, you looked into my eyes and you whispered deeply into my soul. You stirred my spirit and it leapt with joy. You touched my body and the fires began. You kissed my rose and you melted my heart. You brought me life and you prayed away death. You drove away despair and you ushered in hope. You wiped away my tears and you brought me joy. You have lived your life for me and yet you have so much to offer the world. I feel as if I am holding you back. Do you know that anywhere that you go you will flourish? Any endeavour that you set your heart to achieve, you will surely achieve. Any enterprise that you touch will meet with good success. This is because you have God's favour and annointing upon you and you are blessed. I am beginning to feel as if I am falling behind but please don't let my challenges hold you back. I leave my fate to God who has never failed me. As unworthy as I am I will never be ashamed. Yet you have the world at your feet so just go for it and make sure that you achieve your ambitions and your full potentials .I look at your vision, insight and power of creativity and I marvel.

I see your ability to deny self, to endure and to communicate with the Living God and I am as amazed as I am humbled. You simply cannot be held down or defeated by the rigours of life: you will always prevail. God brought you into my life just to show me how good and wonderful some people can be because all I have ever known, apart from you, is failure, rejection, betrayal, abuse, pain, scandal, misrepresentation and hostility. The Lord has shown me, through your shining example that the beautiful ones with kind, compassionate and generous hearts, though few, still exist in this ugly and cruel world. They are known as the true daughters of Zion, the daughters of prophecy, the warriors of the Lord whose mission in life is to bring hope to the hopeless and to effect God's plan and purpose for humanity and for this world.

They are the handmaidens of God: a scourge to the daughters of Jezebel and Dalilah, a terror to the mistresses of sorcery and witchcraft and a tormentor to the wicked one, the accuser of the brethren, the whispering serpent, Lucifer, satan, the fallen morning star himself. You are undeniably one of those beautiful daughters of Zion: the fearless and faithful vessels of joy and carriers of light and I am very proud of you. As for me, I am nothing but a simple and undeserving poet- warrior, a grateful beneficiary of God's manifold grace and wonderful blessings. Yet the God of Heaven knows that I live for Him, for you and for all my loved ones and I WILL DO ANYTHING in my power to effect His purpose in this evil world and to protect you all for as long as I live. This is because u have brought immeasurable joy to a life that has been so dented, abused and scarred by failure, betrayal, envy and hatred. This is because you chose to have faith in me when others had given up and had no hope in me."He is finished" they said and you boldly said that “no, he is not". "Leave him because he is not going anywhere again" they said and you told them, with confidence, faith and authority that "I will not and he will still go far".

May God bless you forever for those prophetic words of faith for it is indeed those simple yet powerful words that have taken me to where I am today and have kept me going, even when I had lost faith in myself. You are a blessing and one of the best things that has ever happened to me in my turbulent and complex life. May God not forsake me and may He give me the power, the opportunity, the ability and the strength to give you the very best that this world has to offer. Yet with or without me you will get the best because daughters of Zion are God's secret angels and they can never fail. You will get the best because you are the reason that the Lord has done so much for me. I am not worthy of Him or His presence but you, so perfect, so faithful and so kind are deserving of all that He has to offer both in this world and in the world to come. It is Him you need and not me. I am just a part and an aspect of what is and what will be your great and glorious life. I pray that you do not forsake or forget that "part and aspect" and that you will continue to have faith in him and not leave him behind. God bless you now and always and remember that you are destined for greatness and great you will be. I will love you forever.

TO REGINA, MY QUEEN, THE ONE I LOVE.
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2008    - Close Poem

Because it gives you joy to make others joyful, joy will never depart from your life or from your doorstep. Because you have faith in Him for a great and prosperous tomorrow, greatness and prosperity shall be your portion all the days of your life. You will never be ashamed and neither shall you ever suffer defeat or want.

Because you have dared to believe that He can take you to the top, take you to the top He shall and He will do so speedily and in the greatest style. Because you continue to faithfully call on His name and manifest His love and kindness to all those around you, He will never leave you or forsake you and He will smite down those that seek your destruction and defeat before your very eyes.

The God of all that is will surely give you a place of honour within the pantheon of greats and He will surely give u and yours the fat of the land. Most important of all He will grant you everlasting peace and crown you with His glorious salvation, that when your work on earth is done you shall go to Him in a joyous blaze of glory, honour and power.

So keep praying, keep smiling and stay confident and strong, for we shall excel and we shall prevail. Our God is not asleep but is quietly working His purpose out. He loves you and His prophecies and words for your life will surely come to pass.

Finally I just want to say thanks for being you and for being there for me. You have made such a difference in my life and I don't know where I would be without you. I will always love you. You are indeed the love of my life: my queen, my love and my strength.

God bless you and all that is yours now and forever.
Shalom.

TRUTH IS CONSTANT
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

Truth is constant and cannot be suppressed for long. It may be held down and pinned under the waters by a forceful and ruthless hand for sometime but it can never be forever.

Sooner or later that mighty and ruthless hand will get weary and tired and it will be forced to let go of that truth which it seek to suppress.

It is at that point that the beauty of truth, the power of reason and the strength of decency shall rise up from the suppression of the waters and be made manifest to the world.

REACH FOR THE STARS
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

The most important thing in life is to make your mark and to be guided by God in all that you do. Let your prayer be that God's purpose for your life be established and do not settle for mediocrity but rather aspire to reach the stars.

Fight courageously to achieve your rightful place in the pantheon of greats with all its attendant power and glory and let no man silence u or put you down.

Be humble and at peace with all men of goodwill yet fear none and yield not to any. Be strong and firm in all that you do, knowing that no man and no circumstance has any power over you or over your life and no situation, not even persecution, torture, betrayal, misrepresentation, lack or even sheer envy and hatred, can separate you from the love of the Lord.

It is God alone that you must fear and it is He alone that determines the destinies of nations and the fate of men. Hold on to Him and look to Him always for others will fail you but He alone will never fail you. By Him and with His power you will always pull through,u will always overcome and u will always get to the top. How great and faithful and true He is.

Thank God that we are all His children and in Him lies our strength and our hope.

Shalom.

THE POWER OF HOPE
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

Hope weakens the power of the enemy and it is evidence of our faith in God. Nothing pleases God more than for us to have faith in Him. Trust Him and hope in Him. He never fails. The future is ours and we will prevail.

REMEMBERING MACDREAMIE
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

I would have done anything for the one I once loved, for she too had her place. She too had, and will always have, a small corner of my heart. After we parted ways I saw her everywhere and in everything and I constantly asked myself "what is she doing now?" It was driving me insane and I then knew that I simply could not live without her.

Anyone that could feel my pain would have freed me and allowed me to follow my heart even if it meant death and destruction for me, for at that brief moment in time my heart belonged to Macdreamie. I was half alive and half dead without her. I wanted to live again and only she could have brought me back to life. I would have done anything just to be with her. I would have followed her to the end of the earth and sought for her at the edges of hell. I would have given up everything just for Macdreamie.

We were indeed two people in one body: tied together by love and fate and bound together in spirit and soul by an irresistible, unbreakable and irrepressible cord. I would have gladly given my life for hers, despite all her eccentricities and complexities, for true love requires sacrifice and it is patient, forgiving, longsuffering and unconditional. I would have protected and provided for her till the day that i died. I would have made her the mother of my children and she would have been my love forever: my reason for living. But this was not to be because Macdreamie suddenly passed on and now she is lost to me forever.

She is no more, yet her smiles, her charm, her joy, her confidence and her strength will remain with me forever. She was selfless and special and all that she ever wanted to do was to make those around her happy. Alas she has gone forever but wherever her precious soul rests today in the heavenlies of our universe, it is my earnest and sincere prayer that the God of all that is forgives her for her sins, that her soul finds perfect peace and that her star continues to shine brightly.

Goodbye Macdreamie, goodbye my love, goodbye forever.

A WORD TO MY FATHER
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

Oh Lord my God, forgive me and forsake me not. You are my strength and my life and without you I am nothing. Help me and mine now for this is our time of need. Lift us up and deliver us from the many snares of our adversaries and cause our enemies to bow before us.

You are a God of peace, mercy, love and compassion and because you are with us we can shed all our fears. Oh Lord where we have offended you and where we have wronged our loved ones, forgive us and fill us with your joy, your strength, your love and your confidence once again. You are my God and will be forever and all that is mine is yours. All that I am and all that I have came from you and is dedicated to you alone. I thank you for all the wonderful things that you have done for us father and I want you to know that, no matter what, I will always love you and cherish you.

May your name be glorified by all that is in both heaven and on earth, now and forever. My earnest prayer is that your counsel stand, your will be done, your purpose be established and your name be glorified in my life, my family, my household and my nation now and always. And so shall it be. I live for you alone Lord: use me mightily and let neither me nor mine fail, fall or be ashamed.

Thank you father. You are Lord of all and may your name be glorified forever.

THE WARRIOR
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

The warrior is noble and strong. His resolve is firm and his commitment is total. His is to kill, to shed blood and to be killed. His is to die for his king and for a worthy cause. His is to protect and lay down his life for his faith, his nation, his people and his loved ones. What manner of men are these whose spirit speak of such valour and nobility?

Consider the ancient Spartans and the Roman warriors of old. Consider the fearsome Vikings who believed that it was a curse to die a peaceful death and that the only way to heaven was to die violently and heroically in fearsome battle. Consider the greatest of all warriors that ever lived, the noble and gallant Achilles. Consider Alexander the great who conquered the world with his sword. Consider King David, the greatest of all the kings of Israel, who was a man of blood and war and yet whom God so loved and who loved God more than any other. Consider Davids "strongmen" who stood with him through thick and thin and who fought for and protected him to the very end. Consider their gallant captain, the mighty Joab and the others, Abishai, Asahel, Eleazer, the Tachomonite, Shammah, Benaiah, Eliam, Igal and Uriah the Hittite. These were David's men: all great and valient men of war whose courage was legendary and whose loyalty to their God and their king was unflinching and unquestionable.

Consider Shaka the Zulu, Beowulf the Nordic king and William Wallace the liberator of Scotland. Consider King Henry the fifth of England who routed the French at the battle of Agincourt even though he was outnumbered by fifty to one. Consider Julius Caesar who came, who saw and who conquered. Consider the great Herecles who was a descendant of the mighty Hercules himself. Consider Samson, who slew a troop with the jaw bone of an ass and yet who fell at the touch of a woman.

Consider Gideon who slew the Midianites, Jeptha who sacrificed his own daughter, Joshua who brought down the walls of Jericho and Jehu, who drove his chariot like a madman and who slew the witch Jezebel at Jezreel and, in fulfilment of prophecy, ensured that the dogs ate her flesh and licked her blood. Consider those that laid down their lives for our great and noble christian faith: Paul of Tarsus, the greatest of all the apostles, who brought the glorious gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to the gentiles. Peter the disciple, who became the rock on whom the Church of God was built. Matthew, Mark, John, Isaiah, Daniel, Samuel, Abraham, Jacob, Elisha and all the other disciples and prophets of old. For martyrs and heroes that lived and died for God are also gallant warriors who feared not death and who stood firm to the end in defence of their faith.

Consider George Washington who led his troops into battle and whose battle cry was "victory or death". Consider the charge of the light brigade, the sheer courage and discipline of the famouse 600, at the battle of Balaclava. Consider General Custer at the battle of the Little Big Horn. Consider the Duke of Wellington at the battle of Waterloo and consider the great Napolean in his fury, in his glory and in his power.

Had these great men all not stood their ground and had they all not played their role in our collective history, where would we all be today? They sacrificed their today so that we may have a better tomorrow. They lived and died for the sake of others and asked for only one thing in return: that their names should live forever and that we should never forget their noble deeds and worthy sacrifices. And we must not forget, nay we dare not forget, for as another great and inspiring soul by the name of Martin Luther King once said "if a man is not ready to die for something then he is not worthy of living for anything". The warrior is prepared to die for his cause. That is what makes him so noble and that is why he will always have a special place in our hearts.

May the spirit of the warrior and selfless courage fill us all and, like the true warriors that we are meant to be, when death comes may the Lord give us the strength and boldness to fearlessly look at it in the face and treat it with the contempt and disdain that it deserves, knowing that it has lost its sting and knowing that, by the power of Christ Jesus, it has been conquered and crushed forever.

And when death comes, as come it must for all, let us be men and let us die a good death, not cringing and crying like women, but like true warriors, fighting to the bitter end. For it is never for the warrior to ask the why: it is only for the warrior to do or die. The warrior does not vanish into the night, the warrior will not go down without a fight..

WHY DO YOU LOVE GOD?
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

People often ask "why do you love God?" and yet the answer is simple and clear. I love God because He is God: the creator of all that is, the master of the universe and the source of all power and life. He holds the world together by the power of His word. He is high and lifted up and He alone is worthy of our praise. I love Him because He became a curse just for me. I love Him because He gave His life just for me. I love Him because He was afflicted with sickness just for me. I love Him because He was hated and became poor just for me. I love Him because He was scourged and scorned and rejected and beaten just for me. I love Him because He gave His son just for me. I love Him because He shed His blood just for me. I love Him because He suffered shame and pain and disgrace just for me. I love Him because He spoiled the principalities and powers just for me. I love Him because He rose again and conquered all just for me. I love Him because He paid the price and bought salvation just for me. I love Him because He is love itself. I love Him because He gave me hope, even in my shattered dreams. I love Him because His love for me is constant, faithful, unconditional and sure. I love Him because He is merciful and forgives me of all my sins. I love Him because He is tangible, not ephemeral and very real to me. I love Him because He accepts me just the way I am. I love Him because in spite of my weaknesses and imperfections He continues to fill me with His joy, His peace and His blessings. I love Him because He delivers me from my enemies and protects me night and day. I love Him because He gives me life and continues to preserve it.

I love Him because He leads me beside still waters and provides for me day after day. I love Him because He stills every storm and brings me to an expected end. I love Him because He annoints my head and lifts it up above my enemies. I love Him because He gives me health, he prospers me and He exalts my horn. I love Him because He enlarges my coast, He increases me and He scatters my adversaries. I love Him because His word strengthens me and continues to comfort and assure me. I love Him because He is everything to me and without Him I am nothing. I love Him because with Him I am everything and through Him I can do all things. I love Him because I know that He will never leave me or forsake me. I love Him because he has given His blessed assurance and because His Holy Spirit fights for me night and day. I love Him because He is the Lord of Hosts and He alone is faithful and true. I love Him because He is the Man of War and He is mighty and irresistable and terrible in battle. I love Him because He is the Prince of Peace who comforts and soothes and brings joy, even in the most difficult situations. I love Him because He rules the universe and He brings judgement and destruction to those who oppose Him. I love Him because the nations of this world are as a drop in the ocean to him and it's princes and kings are nothing before Him. I love Him because the earth is His footstool. I love Him because He is the Rose of Sharon, the Lily of the Valley and the Balm of Gilead . I love Him because He loves me too and He has proved it over and over again.

My love for the Lord is very real and nothing is more important and precious to me. My soul proclaims loudly both night and day that His name be blessed and blessed forever. My spirit testifies as each hour passes that Jesus is Lord both now and always. My body displays His spleandour and His glory and by Him we are beautiful and fearfully and wonderfully made. It is for these reasons and much much more that I will always love the Living God and that, like Joshua, I will forever proclaim that "as for me and my household, we shall serve the Lord" all the days of our lives and from generation to generation. May all that resides in every sphere of existence, in the universe and in every realm, love and worship and fear the Lord, for He alone is worthy of our praise.

IF I SHOULD DIE
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

If I should die, cry not for me for angels beckon where I go. If I should die, weep not for me for it brings an end to pain afflicted. If I should die, mourn not for me for it ushers in peace eternal. If I should die hurt not for me but remember the good and dwell not on injuries past. If I should die, let tears run not but in their stead rejoice in the knowledge that believers don't die but only change address. For through Christs promise I have no fear of they that come in demon guise to carry the hapless and the hopeless to the hottest flames of hell. Through Christ's blood lies hope eternal, precious blessing and everlasting peace. If I should die, look to my loved ones and try to encourage them from time to time. If I should die, sweet memories hold, of passion, of love, of beauty and joy: not bitterness, not sadness, not regret nor hurt. Yet long life is my portion and death is far from me and neither can claim my soul or eclipse my rising star. Till my work on earth is done I shall live and live well, knowing and believing that I shall never see the pains of hell. To those that have gone before me, I salute their gallant souls. For to cross that line is not the end but rather the beginning of immortal life and eternity. This is the promise of God and I hold on to it dearly, knowing that He never lies, He never fails, He never sleeps and He never forsakes.

So my friends, conquer your fear of death and as Plato once said "you shall live forever". For if I should die my soul still lives and if you want to see me just wait till midnight and look up at the stars. For I shall shine brightly then even as I do now, knowing and believing that I am not alone. If I should die, remember that we once loved and that love remains, waiting and eternal, till the day we meet again. If I should die, I once again would see my father, my mother, my brother, my loved ones, my ancestors and my long lost friends that all went long ago. What joy that would bring when we all meet again at the feet of our Christ, our risen King and Lord. If I should die, the next generation follows, filled with faith, with strength, with youth, with vigour, with vitality and with power. And die we must for them to grow for we must become lesser and lesser and they larger and larger. For therein lies our hope for a greater and better tomorrow, for if I should die I need only look back once and see and know that my standard, my crest, my colours and my flag still fly high.

For after I am gone, and gone forever, my children and my children's children shall continue the race of life. And so the cycle continues for their time will come too. But fret not, fear not, cry not and mourn not for if I should die, I shall enter that paradise, that glory, that blessing and that promise that Adam, in the garden of Eden, once lost and almost lost forever. And if I should die, for those I leave behind, the word of God is clear: He is your father for He is the "father of the fatherless" and He is your husband for He is the "husband of the widow". He is with you, He will love you, He will guide you, He will protect you and He will provide for you better than I or any mortal could. And if I should die, if nothing else, remember this: it is not in the ephemeral deceit of fleeting fame, or name or treasure or power or wealth that any should stand, for on that day when death comes calling these temporal vanities will surely flee and we stand on our own. So stand on Christ the rock and on Him alone and remember that if I should die and die in Him, then truly I die not, but I live with and reign in Him and through Him forever.

THE SEVEN LESSONS TO ABUNDANT LIFE
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

The first is that without God there is nothing and with God there is everything. The second is that if you help ten people in life count yourself lucky if one returns to say thank you and count yourself lucky if only one of the ten betrays you. The third is that you must trust no-one because it is those that are closest to you that will hurt you the most. The fourth is that you must never write off or despise anyone no matter how bad their situation because you don't know what they may become tomorrow. The fifth is that you cannot afford not to help your friends and you cannot afford not to fight your enemies. The sixth is that true knowledge and insight is gained not by the best secular education or even by life's many experiences but rather it is gained by divine revelation. The seventh and final lesson is that you must conquer your fears and no matter what you are going through, be positive, be happy and hold on to your faith in God knowing that He that created you is quietly working His purpose out for your life and He will never forsake or leave you either in this life or in the life to come. Seven is the number of perfection so let me stop there but if you can hold on to these seven home truths you will go far in life and nothing will hold you down.

THE POWER OF A WOMAN
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

Women are a precious gift from God but there are some things that all men need to know. Women are by far the deeper and more powerful of the two sexes. No matter how strong a man thinks he is, he is like butter in the hands of a woman that he loves. It is only a woman that can carry a child for nine months and raise that child to adulthood and yet until the day that that woman dies only she will know the real father of that child. Women are more discerning than men, more calculating, more thoughtful, more spiritual, more loyal, and more disciplined and they can handle emotional pain and psychological torture far better than men. A woman can suffer trauma, deprivation, shame, sheer cruelty and beatings from a man and still stay with him simply for the sake of the children. A woman can do anything and take anything for, or from, a man that she truly loves. A woman can be the most vicious and dangerous of all God's creatures when she is hurt and scorned and when her love is not returned.

A woman in a position of power can be a dangerous thing because more often than not she is motivated by emotion and not reason or logic. If wars were to be fought by women they would never end. The greatest weapon that the devil has in his armoury are the daughters of Jezebel and Dalilah, those beautiful yet evil seducers whose mission in life is to destroy men that are called to greatness by God. The greatest weapon that God has in his arsenal are the daughters of Zion, those beautiful, wise, prayerful, discerning, prudent, patient, kind, loyal women who are faithful unto death and who are the enforcers and guardians of God's purpose in the lives of men.

A woman can kill a man that she has lived with all her life, simply because he never returned her love and a woman can kill for or die for a man who loves her and stands by her through thick and thin. If you are rich, pretend that you are poor to a woman and you will know her true nature. If you are poor, pretend that you are rich to a woman and you will know what she is really after. A woman that abandons a man when he is going through difficulties is not worth taking back when those challenges have been overcome. Beware of a woman's love, for at the slightest hurt, it can turn to hate. Women gossip and talk, yet a woman keeps deeper secrets than any man.

When a woman says "no" she actually means "maybe" and when she says "maybe" she actually means "yes". A woman that betrays or seeks to destroy, ridicule or shame her husband or lover destroys and diminishes her own spirit and wounds her own soul; not only is she not worthy of being loved by any, but she is not the material for a man of destiny, she is not of the stuff that true women are made. A great king with a great army can overrun nations and yet can be mastered and overwhelmed by the mere touch and whisperings of a loving woman. The love of Helen of Troy caused the launch of a thousand ships and the love of any woman can cause a man to slaughter. Women are a gift from God to men, but like all gifts they must be pampered, loved and given all your attention otherwise they begin to look elsewhere for such nourishment and care. Out of every specie of animal ever created by God, it is always the female gender of that animal that is the most vicious and dangerous and yet it is also the female of that specie that protects and raises the offspring in loving care.

You cannot police a woman or really know her movements for she can be the greatest deceiver: if she really wants to play, she will go ahead and play and no matter the efforts that her man makes, it is only by divine intervention that he will ever know. A woman is moved by touch whilst a man is moved by sight. A woman will die for her children and guard her home with all she has. A woman craves for security and commitment above all else and without these two she cannot truly be happy. A woman gives, a woman takes, a woman laughs, a woman cries, yet through all this only she alone knows what is really in her heart. A woman can heave and moan in the throes of orgasmic passion, yet deep down she feels nothing at all but pity and contempt for the lover that she is deceiving. A woman can lie still and say she feels nothing yet her heart trembles and races and her senses come alive and quiver deeply just at the sound and by the touch of the man that she truly desires. That is a woman for you: they can be a snare or a blessing. They can bring joy or pain. They can wound or they can heal. They are a beautiful contradiction of love and hate and we men simply cannot live without them.

A woman can only appreciate a man after she has been with another. A woman will make you feel that you are in charge yet with sweet words and with guile and cunning she silently controls everything and everyone around you. Women are the shield, the defender and the foundation of the home. Even as the man is the head, the woman is the neck without which it would fall. The greatest mistake that any man could ever make is to underestimate or treat with levity the power of a woman. For it is only a dullard or a fool that could honestly believe that he can confine a woman to having babies and to simply cooking in the kitchen. A woman is irrepressable, unbeatable,unfathomable, irresistable and unknowable and my advice to every man is to cherish her, to love her and to grant her, her hearts deepest desires. That is the secret to a woman's heart and what more is there to say, other than for us to admit that the woman is the true hero of our lives and to simply agree that we must appease and worship them and do all we can to keep those pretty smiles on their beautiful yet dangerous faces.

OGHENEVINYEZE (THE GOD SENT CHILD)
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

You speak tenderly and tender you are. Tender is your skin and your body. Tender are your ways and your words. Tender is your touch. Tender is your beauty and your gait and your walk. Tender in every way and even more tender.

You whisper tenderly with love and depth and warmth. You love with power and passion. You speak with profundity, precision and clarity. You work and think with logic. You stand with pride. You fight with courage. You write and pray with depth and faith. You are blessed with beauty. You are the true Gueneviere : an extraordinary woman, a woman of many parts. Many love you without even knowing you. Your spirit is strong and stands tall. Your God is mighty. You can never be destroyed or defeated. You are my Esther, my Abigail, my queen, my warrior, my lover, my hero and my friend. So young, so fresh, so innocent and so free. There is none like you. Tender you are and tender you will be.

MY MOST PRECIOUS
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

You are filled with God's word and His Holy Spirit. I see His light shining forth from within you. It is tangible and clear. It brings with it God's grace and mercy and the hope of abundant life and restoration. It is bright and irresistable and darkness and failure and shame and fear disappear and flee before it. You bring joy and peace and blessings and victory wherever you go and the soft and beckoning sounds of laughter and merriment follow you wherever you tread your precious feet. You smell of fresh spring flowers: the rose of sharon and the lily of the valley.

Your crown flows with God's precious oil of anointing and your body glows and shines and drips with the balm of Gilead: you bring healing and life and hope to bruised emotions and buried souls. You are, undoubtedly, my most precious jewel and one day I will clothe you in gold and adorn you with diamonds and rubies and sapphires and pearls. Your crown shall be encrusted with topaz and emeralds and your fingers and toes shall be laden with platinum and silver.

This because you have shown me love and kindness and you have chosen to have faith in me. You are my most precious jewel: you make my soul sing and at the sound of your voice my heart beat quickens and my spirit comes alive. Nothing and no-one can replace you. You are eternal to me: forever my most precious jewel. May God bless and prosper you now and always and may His holy angels guard and protect you and all that is yours both night and day.

THE CALLING OF OUR LIVES
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

Eagles do not hide when they see a storm gathering, lions do not retreat when the enemy threatens and kings do not run when they hear the sound of battle. Rather the eagle flies boldly into the eye of the storm without a trace of fear but with power, majesty, grace and passion. The lion rises and roars with courage and strength as his adversary approaches. The king does not yield one inch of the field to the marauding enemy but rather he gallantly and boldly leads his captains and princes into the most bitter part of the battle. This surely is our calling and the essence of our lives. The Lord has given us the spirit of the eagle and the lion: the spirit of the warrior and the king. We cannot and will not be intimidated by anything, any circumstance or anyone and least of all by what we see or hear. And why should we be afraid of mere mortals, for what is man? The bible asks,”who art thou o man?” It then answers it's own question by saying “thou art as the grass that withers, thou art as the flower that fadeth........a man that is born of woman, that is today and tomorrow is no more.” Indeed that is all we are before God. His word says it is He alone that has the power to “give life and to kill.” If we die tomorrow it is by His will and if we live tomorrow it is by His grace. His word says it is He alone that is worthy of our fear and of our praise.

We must therefore all humble ourselves before God and know that He alone rules in the affairs of men and determines the destiny of nations. So fear God alone and be the man or woman that He has called you to be; a prince of Heaven, a deliverer of his people, a fearless warrior and a worthy king. And one of the characteristics of a true leader and king is the courage and ability to fearlessly rise up to the occassion and speak out when faced with evil, injustice and oppression. One question that is often asked today is why should we speak out ? Why bother? What difference does it make? And yet the great Edmund Burke provided the answer to the question when he said that when good men remain silent when they see evil in the land, that is when such evil flourishes. He said that the hottest place in hell is reserved for such "good" yet silent men . This is not only true but it is also deeply profound. That is why it saddens me when some people suggest that we should not talk about our challenges and that we should not speak out and protest against the evil and injustice that thrives in our land today. Imagine what it would have been like if people had adopted that attitude all over the world and throughout world history.

If people did not speak out and protest, we would still have had slavery all over the world today. If people did not speak out and protest, we would not have had democracy in the world today. If people did not speak out and protest, fascism and Hitler's Nazis would have been alive and well today and the Aryan race would have been ruling the world with an iron fist. If people did not speak out and protest, we would still have had the evil of communism in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe today and worse still the communists would have been controlling most of our planet by now.

If people did not speak out and protest, every country in Africa would still be a grovelling colony today. If people did not speak out and protest, apartheid and the white Boers would have been ruling the whole of southern Africa by today. If people did not speak out and protest, Bin Laden, the islamists and Al Qaeda would have taken over half of the world by today. If people did not speak out and protest, there would have been no state of Israel or Jewish homeland today. If people did not speak out and protest, Iran would have possessed and would most likely have used nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction by today. If people did not speak out and protest, the military would still be ruling most of Africa till today.

If people didn't speak out and protest, the great monotheist faiths of Christianity, Islam and Judaism would never have been established and the world would still have been controlled by pagans, cannibals, ritualists and devil worshippers till today. If people did not speak out and protest, there would not have been a separation of power between the church and the state till today. If people did not speak out and protest, there would have been no freedom of worship today and neither would there have been any freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom to share information or freedom to communicate: there would have been no civil liberties, no human rights, no right to vote and no equality of the sexes in the world today.

If people did not speak out and protest, the United States of America would never have been founded and established as an independent nation state and she could never have become the great and powerful country that she is today. If people did not speak out and protest, Great Britain, France, Russia and indeed the whole of Europe and Asia would still be ruled by a handful of autocratic, cruel, incestous, indolent, self-indulgent, self-serving and thoroughly decadent royal families till today. If people did not speak out and protest, we in Africa would still be in the dark ages, drowning twins at birth and selling one another to slavery till today. I could go on and on.

The point is that we must speak out strongly and protest against evil whenever and wherever we see it. That is why we were educated in the first place and that is what being a believer is all about. Protesting against, speaking against and fighting against injustice and evil is the greatest duty that we have to humanity and to one another as human beings. It is a sacred trust and obligation before God. The minute we stop talking, we stop protesting and we stop speaking out against that which is unjust and evil, that is when we are truly lost as a people. That is when we cease to be the men and women that God has ordained us to be. That is when we no longer deserve to be called human beings. That is when we must bow our heads in shame forever.

THE LAST SONG
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

Villa Love Love, Cannes, Juanes Le Paine, Nice and Super Cannes. Summer of '82 in the South of France and then on to Athens and those beautiful Greek islands. Fondest memories. Those were the days. The best days of our lives. So young, so free, so vibrant, so happy. We had the world at our feet. We were full of life. Where did all those wonderful years go? Our joy was complete. No fears. No worries. No responsibilities. No concerns. Now we are old and fading. Now our time is almost done. Now we know how cruel and hard this world can be. Now we call God night and day to shield and provide for our partners and loved ones.

Now we know what our parents went through. Now it is our children's turn to be full of joy. I will not write poems and love songs again. The world is too ugly, too harsh, too cruel for that. Too many hearts have been broken, too many souls have been betrayed and abandoned. Too much hurt is in the air. Too much want, too much poverty, too much suffering. Here I sign off forever. To all those I once loved: I was never good enough for any of you. My bed of roses are made, the show is over, the night begins. From today I sleep and I sleep forever. My queen shall continue the march of life and other kings and generals will rise.

.......wow...... wake up....... what a nightmare. Thank God. Did you think that you could get rid of me so easily? No way. Come on and give me a beautiful smile: how can I stop writing love songs when the sun still shines and when your beauty still lies radiant at my doorstep and in my heart. No. I will write and write until I am no more and you will feel and enjoy that manifest joy and abundance that still resides in my Spirit-filled soul. Shalom.

THEY WILL BOW
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

They will bow before the anointed of the Lord. They will flee before a true warrior. They will shiver at the roar of the lion. They will tremble when they hear the oracles of God. On that day they will know that there is a God in heaven who rules in the affairs of men. The Lord will go before us and make every crooked path straight. The victory is ours, now and always.

TRUE STRENGTH
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

The strength of a man resides not in his body but rather in his will and in his spirit. It cannot be measured by the size of his muscles but rather in his ability to be resilient, disciplined, courageous, honourable, longsuffering, patient, loving, kind and utterly fearless. In every situation and in all circumstances that life throws his way he is not moved or perturbed but rather he remains strong and bold, encouraging others, keeping hope alive: he is as constant as the northern star. Again true strength can only be discerned in the eyes of a man and not in his height or in the power of his arms and legs: it rests in his heart and and it is bolstered and fuelled by his faith in God. Had it been otherwise David would have been crushed by Saul and Goliath. Had it not been so Jerusalem would have fallen before Sennacherub.

GOD DEFEND NIGERIA
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

However you may feel today, whether happy or sad or whether hopeful or fearful, always remember this: that our future and fate as a nation will not be determined by anyone, any group of people or any government. It will not be eclipsed, marred, moulded or forged in the darkness of deceit or in the tunnels of misfortune, bitterness and trauma. Evil and heartless men shall not have their way forever in our country for though our night may be dark and seemingly endless, the beautiful rays of the bright morning sun shall one day surely come and with it bring light, comfort, joy and peace everlasting. Our ship of state shall one day be steered not by cruel, unfeeling and insensitive hearts but by the God of Heaven and by He alone.

One day, not too far from now, our land shall be free and our soil shall breath life again. On that day summer flowers will blossom and the sound of gentle laughter shall fill the air. Therein lies our hope for a better tomorrow and there lies our path to honour, prosperity and greatness unimaginable. Our destiny and hope lies in God's sure hands and in all things, both good and bad, we must give thanks to Him and we must have faith in Him. He is worthy to be praised. He is faithful and true. He will not forget us. He will not forsake us. He truly is our shield and our glory: He surely is the lifter of our heads. We are one nation, indivisible, unbreakable and undividable under God. We may have some differences amongst ourselves but whichever side of the great divide that each and everyone of us stands, we are, every one of us, first and foremost, Nigerians and our faith, our loyalty, our hearts and our very souls must live for and pledge loyalty to the sacred soil of mother Nigeria: they must testify to the power, the beauty and the grace of our wonderful people. God bless Nigeria! God save Nigeria! God defend Nigeria! God deliver Nigeria!

A PRAYER FOR FFK
        ... by JD                                 ______________JD, 2009    - Close Poem

Whilst having a prayer riot into the new month I remembered you and yours and hope God grants you whatever goodness the new month has to offer you....Amen!

May God grant you powers of patience in a storm!
May God give you miracles that terminate insults in your life!
If someone! Anybody! has to fall for you a child of God to rise…then so be it!
If someone has to die to let your destiny shine… then let it be so!
Every storm brewing for your destruction…God will bring you out of it!
You shall decree a thing and so shall it be established!
In the middle of your storm God is perfecting you and will give you an answer and will promote you!
May God permanently put a song in your mouth!
Every negative weapon channelled at you shall fail for your sake…as a child of God!
Whatever storm you’re going through will not take you down…You will rise above them and you shall not fail
The lie of the devil will not stand in your life!
There must be victory in your life!!!! Amen!!!

GUARD YOUR HEART
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

They say that the only people that can really hurt you are those that you love. It therefore follows that the most important thing for anyone to do is to guard his or her heart and emotions with vigour and with wisdom. For once  love is truly given, especially when it is given freely and quickly, and once emotions are deeply stirred and hearts touched at the mere whisper of a tongue, it is very rarely reciprocated or appreciated.  More often than not unmerited love and unwarranted favour is treated with utter contempt and secret disdain.  It is abused, scorned, taken for granted, taken advantage of, wounded, despised, betrayed, used and eventually rejected and dumped. Yet when love is truly appreciated and properly returned, it is the most precious and powerful gift in the entire universe.

Therefore seek out true love and search for it diligently and far but never give it out too easily. For it is like money: the easier it is acquired, the easier it is for it to be spent and thrown away. Yet for those that have much love to give, I urge you, please do not despair: rather save it, nurture it, cultivate it and make it whole. For one day and from somewhere the one that God has created especially for you shall surely appear. And when that day comes, as come it surely must, it is bliss and joy eternal with none, yes none, to spare.

A DAY TO GIVE THANKS
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

Blessed be the name of the most High God, the God whose I am and the God whom I serve. Blessed be His holy name forever. His name is Jehova Shalom, Jehova Nissi, Jehova Jireh and Jehova Sharma. The heavens are His throne and the earth is His footstool: none can resist Him. The nations of the earth and their princes are as a drop in the ocean before Him. He created all that is and knows the end even before the beginning. He is high and lifted up and His train fills the temple. He is the Lord of the universe and the angels and all that is bow before Him. He is the Lord God of Hosts, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the Lion of the tribe of Judah and the Holy one of Israel. He is mighty and terrible in battle, who can resist Him? His name is Yahweh God, the Adonai, the Elohim. He is the Balm of Gilead, the Rose of Sharon, the Lily of the Valley and the Prince of Peace: He comes forth as a gentle dove and He breaks out like a consuming fire. He is the Comforter that makes all things possible: He makes a way where there seems to be no way. He is my strength, my joy and the rock of my salvation. He is the precious Lamb of God, the Giver of Life that shed His blood at Calvary. He is our Saviour Jesus Christ, the King of Kings, the Son of the Living God, the author and finisher of my faith and He that came down as God incarnate in the flesh, that died and rose again and spoiled the principalities and powers. He is my shield, my glory and the lifter of my head.

All praise, all glory and all honour be unto Him forever, for today is the day of my birth and He has blessed me with yet another year of life and delivered me from the hand of my enemies. I thank God for the gift of life, good health, peace, prosperity and joy. I thank God for my wife, my children and my loved ones. I thank God for my household, from the least to the greatest. I thank God for my friends and for my country Nigeria. I thank God for my destiny which none can alter. I thank God for my challenges, from which I have learnt so much. I thank God for my enemies for He has shamed them over and over again. I thank God for just being God and for watching over me and mine both night and day. I thank God for another year that has passed and for many many more years to come. I thank God for my friends, most especially for those that wish me well. And most important of all I thank God for and I bless this great day, the 16th day of October, itself. For on this day many years ago, He called me from eternity and brought me into this world. All glory, all honour and all praise be unto Him forever. May His counsel stand, may His will be done, may His purpose for bringing me into this world be established and may His name be glorified. He is faithful and true and so it shall be. God bless and keep us all now and forever. Shalom.

THIS WALL SHALL FALL
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

It is 20 years since the fall of the Berlin wall and since the world was returned to safety and sanity. Thank God for His awesome power and for His final victory over the evil empire of communism which boastfully proclaimed that there was no God. In the same way every wall in our nation Nigeria that stands against God's counsel for our lives and for our people shall eventually fall. No matter how powerful or how untouchable, no matter how wicked and deceitful, no matter how treacherous, cowardly and self-seeking, they will surely fall. And when that time comes, that irrepressable agent of change called truth shall finally emerge and it shall make itself known to all. It is only when that happens that our people will truly be free and it is only when that occures that lasting and real change, which we so obviously and so desperately need, will come to our beleaugerd and sickly land. This season of lies, persecution, witchunting, disinformation, tribalism, incompetence, laziness, national infirmity coupled with the most vicious form of vindictiveness and pettiness will soon be gone with the wind. And when that happens, it is at that time that those that believe that they will be in power forever and those that think that they can destroy the lives and dreams of others and shatter the destiny of our great nation will know that they are not God. Those walls that have been built on deceit and whose deepest and strongest foundations are fortified by the spirit of Jezebel shall soon fall. And we shall all live to see it. The triumph of good over evil is certain. This wall shall fall. It is just a matter of time.

WHO DARES WINS
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

Power and greatness are fought for and won. They are not given but rather they are taken. And a real man must resolve in his heart that he will either be great or he must die trying. So whatever your field of endeavour, let your circumstances not deter or dissuade you or hold you down. You must rise up, stand firm and reach for the stars. Second best is not good enough for you: you must be the best and you must have the best. So be courageous and strong, despise the shame, know who you are, hold on to God's promise and soldier on regardless. Go to the war front and return with the spoils of victory, no matter what it takes and no matter what it costs you. Be a man and fear nothing. Remember, they say "who dares wins". And remember again that without any guts there is no glory. So go for the v best. Stand up and be counted. You are somebody- dare to believe it. Warriors and kings never fail: they either win or they die trying. Victory or death: that is the path of honour. That is the way of real men. There is no in between: it is either victory or death.

A PRAYER FOR MY CAUSE
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

You are all wonderful and courageous people and the most important thing u can do for me now is to pray concerning this matter. There is nothing that God cannot do. We shall take the land and dedicate it to Him.Do not be moved by the threats and rantings of the enemy or circumstances that seem insurmountable or impossible because that is where God begins.I assure u that if we can find favour with Him and if we can have enough faith in Him, the governorship of Osun state will only be the first step to much greater things.I will never forget all of you that are listed here today and that have come out and risked all to support and identify with me publically, even in these early days when we are still facing so much persecution and so many challenges. That takes courage and dedication. God will reward you and I will never forget it. A special thanks must go to Mosy Power, Sydney and Oscar. God brought you all my way just when I needed you the most and I want you to be rest assured that He that has started this good thing in our lives is faithful to complete it. And now I commit our cause into the hands of He that is more than able. He alone has power and He gives it to whom He deems fit. We call on the name of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to direct our paths and bless our cause and we solemnly pledge before the world today that to Him alone will we give the glory.God bless you all. Shalom.

A LETTER OF ENCOURAGEMENT TO CHIEF FEMI FANI-KAYODE
        ... by Ayanlola Ayanyimika   ______________AA, 2009    - Close Poem

Dear Sir,
I write to you as a brother, a son, a friend, and most especially a Nigerian youth.
I know about you that you’ve got greatness within you, you have the ability to do things that you can’t even begin to Imagine, you have got talents and skills that you haven’t even begin to reach out for. From Jack Nicholson’s letter, to NDUKU an African boy that he adopted: Nduku, when you die and everyone you know dies, unless you do something significant with your life, it will be as if you were never born.

These are times that we must do more than just talk, than just react in rage and the thirst for revenge, the wiliness to throw the next stone, this are time when we must do more than ask just question as if someone an give us an answer that would make us say; Oh, now I understand. These are times we must be more, do more to break this cycles of so many young people that are filled with anger, bitterness, despair and hopelessness. Our people no longer value their life’s and as a result, they don’t value anybody’s life, what is it that we can do as we begin to look at the news and our extreme situations.

We cant just afford to fold our arms and react by living in fear and cage ourselves and just talk about how bad things are thus, begin to constrict where we go and what we do and how we live, this is the time we have to be encouraged, times we have to become empowered to a sense to say, I can make a difference, I can make a positive impact, making a conscious deliberately determined effort to be positive, these are just some of the loops you’ve got to flip through. Our problem is created by people and it could be solved by people.

As you get on the track to run for the governorship position of Osun state, find those reasons that would empower you.

Why is it that you desire your goal, what are the reasons that you wont give up when life catches you on the blind side, when the messenger of misery visits you, what are you going to do, what will keep you in the game when life knocks you to the canvas?

The booster doulas that fought in the last fight is not the same one that fought Tyson. The Booster Douglas that fought Tyson had just gotten out of alcohol recovery centre, his mother had just died, his wife was ill with a terminable illness, he was considered within a bum, so when I got knocked down he had all reason to get back up because he said, he was dedicating the fight to the memory of his mother.
You’ve got to find some reasons to make you strong, reason that would make you hang in the game when time gets rough, because they re going to get rough, its going to be very challenging. Whenever we decide to grow, to go to another lever, or Vibration, all hell will break loose, everything and anything that can happen at the most possible moment will. It’s called Morphemes’ law

I’m sure you re already experience some of these turbulence, don’t be frightened by that, you just have to fasten your spiritual, psychological and mental belt because it’s an expected experience before you reach a comfortable altitude. During down moments you put it in your heart, and, that’s when you discover who you really are.

Hellooooooooo, Life is going to knock you down, people disappoint you, and that’s going to happen, when people betray you, when they lie to you and that’s going to happen, when they say, oh you can count on me and they wont show up, when you want to throw in the towel and give up, and that’s going to happen, when life collapses on you and catches you on the blind side, and you drop on you knees and it starts chocking you and you are just about denying all your dreams.

What are the reasons that you can remember that you can call on, reach on, that can make you get back up… find that reason.

When life knocks me down, I remind myself, I’m doing this because I want to make my father proud of me, I’m doing this because I want my children to have a better life than what I had, I’m doing this because all my life I’ve been told I’m a loser and that I wont make it, I’m doing this because I want to make then a liar. I believe like Frank Tuner that; the best revenge in life is massive success; I’m doing this because I want to be massively successful. And with that kind of courage, affirmation a reason to empower me, it gets me right back in my feet.

So, when you run out of money, when things don’t work out for you’ve proposed, when things happen that you don’t anticipate, what is that reason that you can think of, that can keep you strong, keep you in the game, that would be your rod and staff to comfort you, that would be your bridge over troubled waters?

Niche says; if you know the why for living, you can endure almost anyhow.
find that reason, that would make you walk by faith and not by sight, that would make you pursue your dreams, when everybody is against you , don’t believe in you anymore, particularly, people that you re doing it for, people that would benefit from it the most, people that should be number one in the encouragement club but they end up saying you can do it, they become members of the discouragement club, I know what its like, it hurts badly, how people who that you love, look you in the Face and say, FFK, why don’t you try something else, why don’t you give up.

Sir, Find those reasons to become massively successful, We believe in a more successful society, a more reliable leadership, a more sustainable government, a future we can all look forward to, a life we can afford to stake our lives and that of our children, just to see it come true, those cause, which you believe in, PLEASE, don’t give up on us… Lots of people have failed us, but with you we have high hopes because no one rises to low expectations, lay us and future generation a legacy. We so believe in you and the future of our state and our Nation. In this, we will support you. Do make us proud.

MY RESPONSE TO MY FRIEND AND BROTHER AYANLOLA AYANYIMIKA
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

My friend and brother, youu have no idea how much this means to me. And you have sent it to me just at the right time. God used you to speak to me with these deeply profound words and to strengthen me and encourage me. You spoke about finding reasons to go on despite whatever challenges may come our way...... well I found those reasons long ago but ... sometimes it is very difficult to hold on to them. Sometimes it is very hard to keep hope alive and to hold on to your faith. Sometimes things get a little cloudy and people that should know better go out of their way to wound and hurt u so badly that you wonder whether it is all worth it and u begin to forget or diminish the weight and importace of those reasons. But with your beautiful words and their warmth and compassion, I can, once again, see those reasons clearly and I will hold on to them dearly. You see throughout my life the enemy has fought me. And in the last two years particularly those that have availed themselves to his usage have sought to kill me, bury me, demean me, destroy me, kill my dreams, abort my vision, scatter my loved ones, destroy those that are dear to me and humiliate me and my family before the entire world. But because Christ lives in me I am still standing and not only standing but standing tall and strong and with my head held up high. I have learnt to take the pain and to despise the shame because I know that though weeping may tarry for the night, joy comes in the morning. I despise the shame because God is with me and because He is my strength.

The bible tells us that the Lord Himself despised the shame and the pain of the cross and He paid the price only because He knew that that was what He came into this world to do, that was His calling, that was His mission and He knew the glorious prize that lay ahead. He knew the end even before the beginning and He knew that that end would be total victory and joy everlasting. He knew that God would honour His word and never forsake Him and He knew that in the end all things would be made beautiful. He knew that nothing could separate Him from the love of the Lord. He knew that no matter how many times they insulted Him, spat in His face, humiliated Him, detained Him, scoffed at Him, mocked Him, framed Him, wrongly accused Him, arrested Him or crucified Him, that in the end and in the fullness of time, He was going to win. That is why the bible tells us that had the princes of this world known they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. We are being crucified night and day and yet we have done no wrong. Yet night and day we are silent and we are as sheep being taken to the slaughter. And yet again I have no fears because for this purpose I have been specially prepared and raised by God and I know that He will see me through. Nothing and no-one can thwart His counsel.

Nothing and no-one can hold back His hand. I stand firm and I stand strong no matter what comes my way because I have seen the top of the mountain, I know the end and it doesnt matter anymore. One thing that I know and that I have learnt over the years is that God does not lie and He does not fail. I also know that He is compassionate and filled with mercy and He never forsakes His own. And because of this I learnt to stop worrying about anything, anyone and any set of circumstances that may come my way many years ago. God is, and will always be, in control. And in this matter of politics, and indeed in every other matter, His will will be done and none other. As for me I pledge to YOu this day before the Hosts of Heaven and before both the visible and the invisible that I will not let YOu down. In whichever capacity that I find myself serving my nation again and at whatever level, if that be the will of God, I will not let u down. And neither will I be intimidated by anyone or any circumstance. Your words have renewed my strength and given me new and fresh courage at a time that I was beginning to feel lonely and weary. God will bless you forever for this and each time that I am feeling a little down I shall read your words and fill myself with the love and strength that they breathe. Thank you so much. Shalom.

I STAND AND I FIGHT
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

The word of God is immutable and unassailable and He is faithful to keep it to the very end. If I know nothing else, this I know to be true. I know that scripture cannot be broken and that whether we live or die tomorrow is in the hands of God alone. I also know that injustice and deceit can never last and that persecution only fuels dissent. There comes a time in the life of a man when he must be a man and stand up and speak the truth, even where others are too timid and intimidated to do so. And he must do this in the knowledge that whatever the price that he may have to pay, whether it be assassination, arrest, detention, harassment, persecution, prosecution or utter destruction, he is ready to pay that price and take the glory and the honour that goes with it. By the grace of God I have today reached that point and I will bare my mind to the sickly tyrant freely. And after I have had my say I shall gallantly take my stand and with faith proclaim: let the demons of hell be invoked and conjured up and let them come forth and do their very worse, for they shall not pass and neither shall they prevail. For the word of God says "if thou shalt say in thine heart, these nations are more than I, how can I dispossess them? Thou shalt not be afraid of them but shall well remember what the Lord thy God did unto Pharaoh, and unto all of Egypt. The great temptations which thine eyes saw and the signs and the wonders, and the mighty hand and the stretched out arm, whereby the Lord thy God brought thee out. So shall the Lord thy God do unto all the people of whom thou art afraid..... thou shalt not be affrighted at them, for the Lord thy God is among you, a mighty God and terrible." And so it shall be as I stand on these holy words and boldly proclaim, o wicked tyrant, I stand and I fight against you. I stand and I fight in the name of the Living God. I stand and I fight in the name of Harrow and Cambridge. I stand and I fight in the name of Kelly and London. I stand and I fight as the son of my father. I stand and I fight as a proud and strong African. I stand and I fight as a resilient and irresistible Nigerian. I stand and I fight as a man of courage. I stand and I fight as a beautiful and irrepressible black man. I stand and I fight as a man of faith, a Christian who knows that his God is mighty and can never be defeated. We are what we believe ourselves to be. I am unbeatable, irrepressible and indestructible. I am a covenant child of the Living God, a prince of the Faith and a son of the Kingdom. My head may be bloodied but it is not bowed. I do not know the meaning of fear and I have learnt to master the affliction of pain. I do not flinch.

I stand and I fight with my whole being: with my body, with my spirit and with my soul. I stand and I fight to win and not to lose. I stand and I fight, tall and proud and by the power of the God that I serve, I shall always prevail. I stand and I fight because children of Israel are never alone. I stand and I fight because all tyrants must be resisted. I stand and I fight because God's word says "He shall cut off the spirit of princes" and “He is terrible to the kings of the earth". And so to King Ahab the sickly tyrant, I have just this to say: you can detain me, you can malign me, you can arrest me and you can misrepresent me. You can persecute me, you can subjugate me, you can lie about me and you can scatter my household and my loved ones. You can villify me, you can torment me, you can jeer at me and you can mock me. You can sack my associates, you can query my loyalists and you can cause my friends to flee the land. U can humiliate those who stand for me, you can pour scorn on those who love me, you can threaten those who speak for me and you can bribe those who work for me. You can plan, you can scheme, you can assign and you can direct and delegate destruction at my doorsteps and at my gates. You can intimidate and torment and you can use your kingly power to abuse and to destroy. You can make our destruction your eighth point agenda and you can commission your minions to ensure that it is perfected. You can do all these things yet ultimately you will fail because, like all beastly tyrants, you have forgotten the power of God in all your subterranean wickedness and in all your sinister schemes. Holding on to power at all costs? That is nothing new, Saul tried it and failed. Agag tried it and failed. Herod tried it and failed. Pharaoh tried it and failed. Sennacherub tried it and failed. Athalia tried it and failed. Nebudchadnezzar tried it and failed. Ahab tried it and failed. Haman tried it and failed. Omri tried it and failed and so did Nero and Caligula and Jezebel and countless others. For the God that stopped them is still alive and continues to rule in the affairs of men and He alone forges the destiny of nations. And in all this know one thing: that you cannot break me, you cannot kill me, you cannot defeat me and you cannot destroy me. This is because I am anointed for greatness and I am truly blessed by He who sits above the circles of the earth and by He who created all that is. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places and yea I have a goodly heritage. My future has been established and decreed by the oracles of God. It has been inscribed in the stars and it has been written in the books of heaven. It cannot be altered or aborted by you or your invocations and spells and your wicked ways. And yet perhaps you should know another: that your end has already been decreed by the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob and it is only a matter of time before it suddenly comes. For my soul stands defiant against you. I defy you with all my being. My contempt for you is resounding, for you are nothing but sickness and weakness and failure and deceit and emptiness. You are nothing but the darkness that seeks the darkness, both you and the Amalekite foundation from which you come.

My God has spoken and on His word I stand. My spirit is lifted and it is filled with joy and strength. I stand and I fight because my victory is assured. I stand and I fight because I despise the shame. I stand and I fight because there is a greater tomorrow.. I stand and I fight because I will never bow before this beastly and deceitful tyrant. I stand and I fight because like Macbeth I must fight "until the flesh be hacked from my bones". I stand and I fight because I am who I am. I stand and I fight because I am a son of the great "I Am, That I Am". I stand and I fight because my God is "a man of war". I stand and I fight because you cannot kill a man that is already dead. I stand and I fight because I have a lioness, a daughter of Zion, who proudly stands by my side. I stand and I fight because the Lord has steeled my body, my spirit and my soul. I stand and I fight because the fewer the number, the greater the share of honour. I stand and I fight because King David stood and fought, and Gideon and Joshua and Jehu that went before him. So let the sickly tyrant rant and rave. Let him do his very worse. Let him, like Nero, play his fiddle whilst Rome burns and let him make merry in his wickedness and inglorious ways.

Let him punish the father of the nation for giving him power. Let him plot and plan both night and day. Let him invoke strange spirits, consult the stars, torture, detain, defame, destroy, charge, frame, kill and maim. Let him bomb and burn and kill his 20 million. Let him bribe the militants of the Niger-Delta and let him offer them a plagued and unsustainable amnesty. Let him "cry havoc" and let slip the horrific dogs of war. Let him break and let him crush the very spirit of the people. Let him enslave the whole of our nation and cower us all into silence and submission. Let him enshrine the words "there is none besides me" into the federal constitution. Let him turn us into cowards and quislings, let him plunge us into darkness and let him bewitch our feeble souls. Yet in all his treacheries and schemings let him know one thing, that we are not shaken and neither are we moved. For even if he were to carve up our flesh and send our dismembered limbs to the four corners of the kingdom, our God is able to put us back together again and give us life, even more abundant. And even if he can kill our weak and worldly bodies, he cannot break our spirits and neither can he take our souls. For if our God can move mountains who and what is he? If our God be for us, what can he possibly do? Our God's word says "who is he that sayest a thing and it cometh to pass when the Lord God of Hosts has commanded it not?" It says "who is he that lays a charge before God's elect, is it not Christ that justifies?" It says "whose report will you believe and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?" It says "who can separate us from the love of the Lord?" and that "nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us".

We stand and we fight because we are indeed "more than conquerors". We stand and we fight because tin pot tyrants come and go: they are a dime a dozen, soon to be forgotten. We stand and we fight because heroes and martyrs, even if they fall in their course, will always live forever. We stand and we fight because we serve a mighty God who never fails and who will never leave us or forsake us. We stand and we fight knowing that the victory is ours. We stand and we fight for our honour, for our nation, for our women and for our children. We stand and we fight with courage, strength, defiance and joy knowing that though weeping may tarry in the night, “joy comes in the morning".

We stand and we fight because His word says "once has it been spoken and twice have we heard that all power belongs to God and the heavens do rule in the affairs of men". We stand and we fight because we have no other choice, for good will always triumph over evil and light will always overcome the darkness in the end. We stand and we fight because we fear not death, we fear not the tyrant and we fear not his gods and idols. We stand and we fight because our God will always love us and through Him and by Him our salvation is secure. We stand and we fight because we have been prepared for war. We stand and we fight because the Lord is our defence and the Holy One of Israel is our king and our God. We stand and we fight because His word boldly asks, "who is this uncircumcised Phillistine that has chosen to defy the armies of the Living God?" We stand and we fight because He goes on to affirm that "I have found David my servant and with my holy oil have I anointed him". We stand and we fight because His holy word proclaims "who art thou o mountain before Zerrubabel? Thou shalt be made a plain".

We stand and we fight because we wax strong in battle. We stand and we fight because we cannot be defeated. We stand and we fight because we are not in the hands of men but rather we are under the power of God. We stand and we fight because He is our shield, He is our glory and the lifter of our heads. We stand and we fight because He will "pour out His wrath upon the heathen that have not known Him and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon His name." Of this I am sure, that our Lord will make them like a wheel and as the stubble before the wind. As the fire burneth a wood and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire, so will He persecute them with His tempest and make them afraid with His storm. He will fill their faces with shame, that they may seek His name night and day. He will let them be confounded and troubled forever; yea He will let them be put to shame and perish that men may know that He, whose name alone is Jehova, is the most high over all the earth. So let it be and so it is and yet until then, we stand and we fight, we stand and we fight, we stand and we fight.

THE NATURE OF MAN
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2009    - Close Poem

The greatest asset that God has given us as human beings is the gift of free will and yet the exercise of this beautiful gift represents the very weakness of our being. The fact that we have been given free will by God and that we have been afforded the luxury of making choices appears to be a wonderful thing on the surface but the truth is that nine times out of ten we human beings will always make the wrong choices simply due to our unrenewed Adamic nature and our reprobate minds. Another major weakness in our being is our inordinate desire for material things and our love of and addiction to money, power and control. This disposition represents the dark and sinister corruption that resides deep within the human soul. We use power to destroy those we hate and we use it to assist those that we love. Our love of money and quest for power and fame has deposited in us a strange spirit which supercedes and consummes everything else in us and which makes us do things that even the worst of all animals would not do to one another. The bottom line is that we are by nature more interested in the physical than the spiritual even though this should not be so.

These are the truisms about human nature that our enemy the devil takes advantage of and that he puts to maximum advantage in his war against God and humanity. All in all there is no place in this cruel world for a man or a woman that loves too much, that feels too much or that is too honest, too forthright, too gentle, too generous, too faithful and too kind. Such beautiful personalities and sensitive souls are more often than not crushed and destroyed by the very system and the very people that they choose to and insist on loving. Cruelty, self-centredness, uncharitable and wicked tendencies, envy, greed and inexplicable hatred coupled with an insatiable desire for primitive gain, power and control : that is the hallmark of humanity, that is the philosophy of the world and that is the nature of man. May God save us from one another.

MY FAVOURITE POEMS
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2010    - Close Poem

Invictus (meaning "unvanquished" in Latin) by William Ernest Henley (1849–1903)

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Desiderata (meaning "desired things" in Latin) by Max Ehrmann (1872 – 1945)

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

The Charge of the Light Brigade by Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809-1892)

Half a league, half a league,
  Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
  Rode the six hundred.
'Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns' he said:
Into the valley of Death
  Rode the six hundred.
[hide]

'Forward, the Light Brigade!'
Was there a man dismay'd?
Not tho' the soldiers knew
  Some one had blunder'd:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die:
Into the valley of Death
  Rode the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
  Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of Hell
  Rode the six hundred.

Flash'd all their sabres bare,
Flash'd as they turned in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army while
  All the world wonder'd:
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right thro' the line they broke;
Cossack and Russian
Reel'd from the sabre-stroke
Shatter'd and sunder'd.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
  Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
While horse and hero fell,
They that had fought so well
Came thro' the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of them,
  Left of six hundred.

When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
  All the world wonder'd.
Honour the charge they made!
Honour the Light Brigade,
  Noble six hundred!

The Holy Bible: Romans 8: 27-39 by Paul the Apostle.

27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Holy Bible: Hebrews 11 by Paul the Apostle.

1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.
3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
12 Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son.
18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
19 Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.
21 By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.
22 By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.
23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.
24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;
25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward.
27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
28 Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.
29 By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.
30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
31 By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.
32 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:
37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;
38 (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

The Holy Bible: 2 Corinthians 4 by Paul the Apostle.

1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
11 For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you.
13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.
15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.
16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

The Holy Bible: Isaiah 45 by the Prophet Isaiah.

1 Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;
2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:
3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.
4 For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.
5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.
7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
8 Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.
9 Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?
10 Woe unto him that saith unto his father, What begettest thou? or to the woman, What hast thou brought forth?
11 Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.
12 I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.
13 I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my captives, not for price nor reward, saith the LORD of hosts.
14 Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.
15 Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.
16 They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: they shall go to confusion together that are makers of idols.
17 But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.
18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.
19 I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.
20 Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save.
21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.
22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.
24 Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.
25 In the LORD shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.

The Holy Bible: Isaiah 47 by the Prophet Isaiah.

1 Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.
2 Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.
3 Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.
4 As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.
5 Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.
6 I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst show them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke.
7 And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.
8 Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:
9 But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments.
10 For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.
11 Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.
12 Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.
13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.
14 Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.
15 Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.

The Holy Bible: 1 Samuel 17: 31-58 by Prophet Samuel.

31 And when the words were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him.
32 And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.
33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.
34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
36 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.
37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.
38 And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.
39 And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.
40 And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.
41 And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him.
42 And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.
43 And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hands.
48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.
50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
51 Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.
52 And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron.
53 And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents.
54 And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent.
55 And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.
56 And the king said, Inquire thou whose son the stripling is.
57 And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
58 And Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, thou young man? And David answered, I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.

The Holy Bible: Isaiah 53 by the Prophet Isaiah.

1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

The Holy Bible: Isaiah 54: 4-17 by the Prophet Isaiah.

4 Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.
5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.
6 For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God.
7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee.
8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer.
9 For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee.
10 For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.
11 O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.
12 And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones.
13 And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.
14 In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.
15 Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.
16 Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.
17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

The Holy Bible: Isaiah 40: 15-31 by the Prophet Isaiah.

15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
16 And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.
17 All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.
18 To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?
19 The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains.
20 He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved.
21 Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?
22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
23 That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.
24 Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.
25 To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?
28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
11 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.
12 Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.
13 For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

The Holy Bible: St. John 17 by Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Son of the Living God.

1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.
7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.
8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.
9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

Mark Anthony's Speech in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar(Act 3 Scene 2) by William Shakespeare.

CITIZENS:
We will be satisfied; let us be satisfied.

BRUTUS:
Then follow me, and give me audience, friends.—
Cassius, go you into the other street
And part the numbers.—
Those that will hear me speak, let 'em stay here;
Those that will follow Cassius, go with him;
And public reasons shall be rendered
Of Caesar's death.

FIRST CITIZEN:
I will hear Brutus speak.

SECOND CITIZEN:
I will hear Cassius; and compare their reasons,
When severally we hear them rendered.
[Exit Cassius, with some of the Citizens. Brutus goes into therostrum.]

THIRD CITIZEN:
The noble Brutus is ascended: silence!

BRUTUS:
Be patient till the last.
Romans, countrymen, and lovers! Hear me for my cause; and be
silent, that you may hear: believe me for mine honour, and have
respect to mine honor, that you may believe: censure me in your
wisdom; and awake your senses, that you may the better judge.
If there be any in this assembly, any dear friend of Caesar's, to
him I say that Brutus' love to Caesar was no less than his. If
then that friend demand why Brutus rose against Caesar, this is
my answer,—Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome
more. Had you rather Caesar were living, and die all slaves, than
that Caesar were dead, to live all freemen? As Caesar loved me, I
weep for him; as he was fortunate, I rejoice at it; as he was
valiant, I honour him; but, as he was ambitious, I slew him.
There is tears for his love; joy for his fortune; honour for his
valour; and death for his ambition. Who is here so base that
would be a bondman? If any, speak; for him have I offended. Who
is here so rude that would not be a Roman? If any, speak; for him
have I offended. Who is here so vile that will not love his
country? If any, speak; for him have I offended. I pause for a
reply.

CITIZENS:
None, Brutus, none.

BRUTUS:
Then none have I offended. I have done no more to Caesar
than you shall do to Brutus. The question of his death is
enroll'd in the Capitol, his glory not extenuated, wherein he
was worthy;, nor his offenses enforced, for which he suffered
death.
[Enter Antony and others, with Caesar's body.]
Here comes his body, mourned by Mark Antony, who, though he had
no hand in his death, shall receive the benefit of his dying, a
place in the commonwealth; as which of you shall not? With this
I depart—that, as I slew my best lover for the good of Rome, I
have the same dagger for myself, when it shall please my country
to need my death.

CITIZENS:
Live, Brutus! live, live!

FIRST CITIZEN:
Bring him with triumph home unto his house.

SECOND CITIZEN:
Give him a statue with his ancestors.

THIRD CITIZEN:
Let him be Caesar.

FOURTH CITIZEN:
Caesar's better parts
Shall be crown'd in Brutus.

FIRST CITIZEN:
We'll bring him to his house with shouts and clamours.

BRUTUS:
My countrymen,—

SECOND CITIZEN:
Peace! silence! Brutus speaks.

FIRST CITIZEN:
Peace, ho!

BRUTUS:
Good countrymen, let me depart alone,
And, for my sake, stay here with Antony:
Do grace to Caesar's corpse, and grace his speech
Tending to Caesar's glory; which Mark Antony,
By our permission, is allow'd to make.
I do entreat you, not a man depart,
Save I alone, till Antony have spoke.

[Exit.]
FIRST CITIZEN:
Stay, ho! and let us hear Mark Antony.

THIRD CITIZEN:
Let him go up into the public chair;
We'll hear him.—Noble Antony, go up.

ANTONY:
For Brutus' sake, I am beholding to you.

[Goes up.]
FOURTH CITIZEN:
What does he say of Brutus?

THIRD CITIZEN:
He says, for Brutus' sake,
He finds himself beholding to us all.

FOURTH CITIZEN:
'Twere best he speak no harm of Brutus here.

FIRST CITIZEN:
This Caesar was a tyrant.

THIRD CITIZEN:
Nay, that's certain:
We are blest that Rome is rid of him.

SECOND CITIZEN:
Peace! let us hear what Antony can say.

ANTONY:
You gentle Romans,—

CITIZENS:
Peace, ho! let us hear him.

ANTONY:
Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears;
I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.
The evil that men do lives after them;
The good is oft interred with their bones:
So let it be with Caesar. The noble Brutus
Hath told you Caesar was ambitious:
If it were so, it was a grievous fault;
And grievously hath Caesar answer'd it.
Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest,—
For Brutus is an honourable man;
So are they all, all honorable men,—
Come I to speak in Caesar's funeral.
He was my friend, faithful and just to me:
But Brutus says he was ambitious;
And Brutus is an honourable man.
He hath brought many captives home to Rome,
Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill:
Did this in Caesar seem ambitious?
When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept:
Ambition should be made of sterner stuff:
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious;
And Brutus is an honourable man.
You all did see that on the Lupercal
I thrice presented him a kingly crown,
Which he did thrice refuse: was this ambition?
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious;
And, sure, he is an honourable man.
I speak not to disprove what Brutus spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love him once,—not without cause:
What cause withholds you, then, to mourn for him?—
O judgment, thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason!—Bear with me;
My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar,
And I must pause till it come back to me.

FIRST CITIZEN:
Methinks there is much reason in his sayings.
SECOND CITIZEN:
If thou consider rightly of the matter,
Caesar has had great wrong.

THIRD CITIZEN:
Has he not, masters?
I fear there will a worse come in his place.
FOURTH CITIZEN:
Mark'd ye his words? He would not take the crown;
Therefore 'tis certain he was not ambitious.

FIRST CITIZEN:
If it be found so, some will dear abide it.

SECOND CITIZEN:
Poor soul! his eyes are red as fire with weeping.

THIRD CITIZEN:
There's not a nobler man in Rome than Antony.

FOURTH CITIZEN:
Now mark him; he begins again to speak.

ANTONY:
But yesterday the word of Caesar might
Have stood against the world: now lies he there,
And none so poor to do him reverence.
O masters, if I were disposed to stir
Your hearts and minds to mutiny and rage,
I should do Brutus wrong and Cassius wrong,
Who, you all know, are honourable men:
I will not do them wrong; I rather choose
To wrong the dead, to wrong myself, and you,
Than I will wrong such honourable men.
But here's a parchment with the seal of Caesar,—
I found it in his closet,—'tis his will:
Let but the commons hear this testament,—
Which, pardon me, I do not mean to read,—
And they would go and kiss dead Caesar's wounds,
And dip their napkins in his sacred blood;
Yea, beg a hair of him for memory,
And, dying, mention it within their wills,
Bequeathing it as a rich legacy
Unto their issue.

FOURTH CITIZEN:
We'll hear the will: read it, Mark Antony.

CITIZENS:
The will, the will! We will hear Caesar's will.
ANTONY:
Have patience, gentle friends, I must not read it;
It is not meet you know how Caesar loved you.
You are not wood, you are not stones, but men;
And, being men, hearing the will of Caesar,
It will inflame you, it will make you mad.
'Tis good you know not that you are his heirs;
For if you should, O, what would come of it!

FOURTH CITIZEN:
Read the will! we'll hear it, Antony;
You shall read us the will,—Caesar's will!

ANTONY:
Will you be patient? will you stay awhile?
I have o'ershot myself to tell you of it:
I fear I wrong the honorable men
Whose daggers have stabb'd Caesar; I do fear it.

FOURTH CITIZEN:
They were traitors: honourable men!

CITIZENS:
The will! The testament!

SECOND CITIZEN:
They were villains, murderers. The will! read the will!

ANTONY:
You will compel me, then, to read the will?
Then make a ring about the corpse of Caesar,
And let me show you him that made the will.
Shall I descend? and will you give me leave?

CITIZENS:
Come down.

SECOND CITIZEN:
Descend.

[He comes down.]

THIRD CITIZEN:
You shall have leave.

FOURTH CITIZEN:
A ring! stand round.

FIRST CITIZEN:
Stand from the hearse, stand from the body.

SECOND CITIZEN:
Room for Antony!—most noble Antony!

ANTONY:
Nay, press not so upon me; stand far' off.

CITIZENS:
Stand back; room! bear back.

ANTONY:
If you have tears, prepare to shed them now.
You all do know this mantle: I remember
The first time ever Caesar put it on;
'Twas on a Summer's evening, in his tent,
That day he overcame the Nervii.
Look, in this place ran Cassius' dagger through:
See what a rent the envious Casca made:
Through this the well-beloved Brutus stabb'd;
And as he pluck'd his cursed steel away,
Mark how the blood of Caesar follow'd it,—
As rushing out of doors, to be resolved
If Brutus so unkindly knock'd, or no;
For Brutus, as you know, was Caesar's angel:
Judge, O you gods, how dearly Caesar loved him!
This was the most unkindest cut of all;
For when the noble Caesar saw him stab,
Ingratitude, more strong than traitors' arms,
Quite vanquish'd him: then burst his mighty heart;
And, in his mantle muffling up his face,
Even at the base of Pompey's statua,
Which all the while ran blood, great Caesar fell.
O, what a fall was there, my countrymen!
Then I, and you, and all of us fell down,
Whilst bloody treason flourish'd over us.
O, now you weep; and, I perceive, you feel
The dint of pity: these are gracious drops.
Kind souls, what, weep you when you but behold
Our Caesar's vesture wounded? Look you here,
Here is himself, marr'd, as you see, with traitors.

FIRST CITIZEN:
O piteous spectacle!

SECOND CITIZEN:
O noble Caesar!

THIRD CITIZEN:
O woeful day!

FOURTH CITIZEN:
O traitors, villains!

FIRST CITIZEN:
O most bloody sight!

SECOND CITIZEN:
We will be revenged.

CITIZENS:
Revenge,—about,—seek,—burn,—fire,—kill,—slay,—let not a
traitor live!

ANTONY:
Stay, countrymen.

FIRST CITIZEN:
Peace there! hear the noble Antony.

SECOND CITIZEN:
We'll hear him, we'll follow him, we'll die with him.

ANTONY:
Good friends, sweet friends, let me not stir you up
To such a sudden flood of mutiny.
They that have done this deed are honourable:
What private griefs they have, alas, I know not,
That made them do it; they're wise and honourable,
And will, no doubt, with reasons answer you.
I come not, friends, to steal away your hearts:
I am no orator, as Brutus is;
But, as you know me all, a plain blunt man,
That love my friend; and that they know full well
That gave me public leave to speak of him:
For I have neither wit, nor words, nor worth,
Action, nor utterance, nor the power of speech,
To stir men's blood: I only speak right on;
I tell you that which you yourselves do know;
Show you sweet Caesar's wounds, poor dumb mouths,
And bid them speak for me: but were I Brutus,
And Brutus Antony, there were an Antony
Would ruffle up your spirits, and put a tongue
In every wound of Caesar, that should move
The stones of Rome to rise and mutiny.

CITIZENS:
We'll mutiny.

FIRST CITIZEN:
We'll burn the house of Brutus.

THIRD CITIZEN:
Away, then! come, seek the conspirators.

ANTONY:
Yet hear me, countrymen; yet hear me speak.

CITIZENS:
Peace, ho! hear Antony; most noble Antony!

ANTONY:
Why, friends, you go to do you know not what.
Wherein hath Caesar thus deserved your loves?
Alas, you know not; I must tell you then:
You have forgot the will I told you of.

CITIZENS:
Most true; the will!—let's stay, and hear the will.
ANTONY:
Here is the will, and under Caesar's seal.
To every Roman citizen he gives,
To every several man, seventy-five drachmas.

SECOND CITIZEN:
Most noble Caesar!—we'll revenge his death.

THIRD CITIZEN:
O, royal Caesar!

ANTONY:
Hear me with patience.

CITIZENS:
Peace, ho!

ANTONY:
Moreover, he hath left you all his walks,
His private arbors, and new-planted orchards,
On this side Tiber: he hath left them you,
And to your heirs forever; common pleasures,
To walk abroad, and recreate yourselves.
Here was a Caesar! when comes such another?

FIRST CITIZEN:
Never, never.—Come, away, away!
We'll burn his body in the holy place,
And with the brands fire the traitors' houses.
Take up the body.

SECOND CITIZEN:
Go, fetch fire.

THIRD CITIZEN:
Pluck down benches.

FOURTH CITIZEN:
Pluck down forms, windows, any thing.

[Exeunt Citizens, with the body.]

ANTONY:
Now let it work.—Mischief, thou art afoot,
Take thou what course thou wilt!—

[Enter a Servant.]
How now, fellow?

SERVANT:
Sir, Octavius is already come to Rome.

ANTONY:
Where is he?

SERVANT:
He and Lepidus are at Caesar's house.

ANTONY:
And thither will I straight to visit him:
He comes upon a wish. Fortune is merry,
And in this mood will give us any thing.

SERVANT:
I heard 'em say Brutus and Cassius
Are rid like madmen through the gates of Rome.

ANTONY:
Belike they had some notice of the people,
How I had moved them. Bring me to Octavius.

[Exeunt.]

King Henry V's St. Crispin's Day Speech in Shakespeare's Henry V(Act 1V Scene 3) by William Shakespeare..

[Enter Gloucester, Bedford, Exeter, Erpingham, with all his host: Salisbury and Westmoreland.]

GLOUCESTER.

Where is the King?

BEDFORD.

The King himself is rode to view their battle.

WESTMORELAND.

Of fighting men they have full three-score thousand.

EXETER.

There's five to one; besides, they all are fresh.

SALISBURY.

God's arm strike with us! 'tis a fearful odds.
God be wi' you, princes all; I'll to my charge.
If we no more meet till we meet in heaven,
Then, joyfully, my noble Lord of Bedford,
My dear Lord Gloucester, and my good Lord Exeter,
And my kind kinsman, warriors all, adieu!

BEDFORD.

Farewell, good Salisbury, and good luck go with thee!

EXETER.

Farewell, kind lord; fight valiantly to-day!
And yet I do thee wrong to mind thee of it,
For thou art fram'd of the firm truth of valour.

[Exit Salisbury.]

BEDFORD.

He is as full of valour as of kindness,
Princely in both.

[Enter the King.]

WESTMORELAND.

O that we now had here
But one ten thousand of those men in England
That do no work to-day!

KING.

What's he that wishes so?
My cousin Westmoreland? No, my fair cousin.
If we are mark'd to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires;
But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England.
God's peace! I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more, methinks, would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart. His passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse.
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is call'd the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say, "To-morrow is Saint Crispian."
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say, "These wounds I had on Crispian's day."
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words,
Harry the King, Bedford, and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered,
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers.
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

[Re-enter Salisbury.]

SALISBURY.

My sovereign lord, bestow yourself with speed.
The French are bravely in their battles set,
And will with all expedience charge on us.

KING HENRY.

All things are ready, if our minds be so.

WESTMORELAND.

Perish the man whose mind is backward now!

KING HENRY.

Thou dost not wish more help from England, coz?

WESTMORELAND.

God's will! my liege, would you and I alone,
Without more help, could fight this royal battle!

KING HENRY.

Why, now thou hast unwish'd five thousand men,
Which likes me better than to wish us one.
You know your places. God be with you all!

[Tucket. Enter Montjoy.]

MONTJOY.

Once more I come to know of thee, King Harry,
If for thy ransom thou wilt now compound,
Before thy most assured overthrow;
For certainly thou art so near the gulf,
Thou needs must be englutted. Besides, in mercy,
The Constable desires thee thou wilt mind
Thy followers of repentance; that their souls
May make a peaceful and a sweet retire
From off these fields, where, wretches, their poor bodies
Must lie and fester.

KING HENRY.

Who hath sent thee now?

MONTJOY.

The Constable of France.

KING HENRY.

I pray thee, bear my former answer back:
Bid them achieve me and then sell my bones.
Good God! why should they mock poor fellows thus?
The man that once did sell the lion's skin
While the beast liv'd, was kill'd with hunting him.
A many of our bodies shall no doubt
Find native graves, upon the which, I trust,
Shall witness live in brass of this day's work;
And those that leave their valiant bones in France,
Dying like men, though buried in your dunghills,
They shall be fam'd; for there the sun shall greet them,
And draw their honours reeking up to heaven;
Leaving their earthly parts to choke your clime,
The smell whereof shall breed a plague in France.
Mark then abounding valour in our English,
That being dead, like to the bullet's grazing,
Break out into a second course of mischief,
Killing in relapse of mortality.
Let me speak proudly: tell the Constable
We are but warriors for the working-day.
Our gayness and our gilt are all besmirch'd
With rainy marching in the painful field;
There's not a piece of feather in our host—
Good argument, I hope, we will not fly—
And time hath worn us into slovenry;
But, by the mass, our hearts are in the trim;
And my poor soldiers tell me, yet ere night
They'll be in fresher robes, or they will pluck
The gay new coats o'er the French soldiers' heads
And turn them out of service. If they do this—
As, if God please, they shall,—my ransom then
Will soon be levied. Herald, save thou thy labour.
Come thou no more for ransom, gentle herald.
They shall have none, I swear, but these my joints;
Which if they have as I will leave 'em them,
Shall yield them little, tell the Constable.

MONTJOY.

I shall, King Harry. And so fare thee well;
Thou never shalt hear herald any more.

[Exit.]

KING HENRY.

I fear thou'lt once more come again for ransom.

[Enter York.]

YORK.

My lord, most humbly on my knee I beg
The leading of the vaward.

KING HENRY.

Take it, brave York. Now, soldiers, march away;
And how thou pleasest, God, dispose the day!

[Exeunt.]

A CRY UNTO MY LORD
        ... by Femi Fani-Kayode    ______________Ffk, 2010    - Close Poem

May the Lord contend against those who contend against us. May He fight against those who fight against us. May He trouble those who seek to trouble us. May He cause the fiery darts of the evil one to fall harmlessly by our feet. May He grant us peace in our palace and prosperity in our walls.

May He cause His angels to guard us jealously night and day. May He grant us that peace which passeth all understanding. May our joy be full now and forever. May He bestow upon us His love and His mercy and may He clothe us with His favour and gird us with His blessings and power. O Lord that answereth by fire, we implore you to save our nation from those that are in power today who deny you with their arrogance and who have no fear of you. Show them O Lord that you are mighty in battle, that you cannot be resisted and that you alone rule in the affairs of men and forge the destiny of nations. In you O Lord do we put our trust: let it be so, that your name may be glorified.

UMORU UMORU
        ... by Folasade Koiku         ______________Fk, 2010    - Close Poem

..............................BUT WHY!!!!!!!!

Why oh why, Umoru, but why,
As I mention your name, I cannot help but sigh.

The BBC, you found time to call on your phone,
But you didn't see fit to even call home,
You didn't call Jonathan to wish him Goodluck,
You didn't call Aondoakaa to stop passing the buck,
We know you didn't run out of credit but nigh
Why oh why, Umoru, but why.

You didn't call Babalola to talk about Megawatts,
You didn't even call Dora, now how fair is that,
You didn't call Barack to talk about Farouk,
A call! you should have made, to get us off-the-hook.
But you still called the BBC, by-and-by,
Why oh why, Umoru, but why.

You didn't call Aremu, who takes you for a mumu,
You didnt call Ogbulafor, who thinks you are done for,
But the BBC you called even on your sick bed,
Although many still say, that you are brain dead,
We don't understand, why to NTA you couldn't say hi,
Why oh why, Umoru, but why.

You didn't sign the appropriation bill, we know,
Your signature was forged but David Mark says NO,
Now for 60 days we have had no head,
The most populous black nation, is blacklisted instead,
People are now wishing and praying that you die,
Why oh why, Umoru, but why.

You haven't even called Odein, to talk about petrol scarcity,
We find it quite hard, to believe you went thru the Varcity,
You have given all powers to the one called Ibori,
Now the Great Nigeria is a nation with no glory,
In spite of it all, the BBC you call,
Umoru, Umoru, see how badly you fall,

Why oh why, Umoru, but why,
The thieves are lining their pockets as the days go by,
Many are wondering if it is better you die,
Why oh why, Umoru, but why.

Have a great day.
One love!
