Nigerian Tribune, Tuesday the 21st of July, 2009
The Nigerian Tribune in its Editorial Column of Tuesday the 21st of July, 2009 endorses Chief Femi Fani-Kayode as its Gubernatorial candidate.
POLITICIANS who want to be governors in 2011 have been indicating their desires. Chief Olufemi Fani-Kayode is one of them. He wants to take over the governorship baton from Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State on 29 May, 2011.
CHIEF Fani-Kayode is a brilliant individual. He must have taken after his father, Chief Remi Fani-Kayode, who was one of the shakers and movers of national politics in the First and Second Republics.
CHIEF Fani-Kayode (jnr) is not new in politics. He served as a Special Assistant to former President Olusegun Obasanjo before his promotion to a ministerial post. While serving as a special assistant, he treated his principal’s critics with due respect and civility. Professors Chinua Achebe and Wole Soyinka were particularly well treated by Fani-Kayode, when they had reasons to join issues with Obasanjo.
WHEN the Osun State governorship aspirant was Minister of Aviation, he changed the face of the aviation workers and airports’ patrons. Some people even adjudged him the best aviation minister in Nigerian history.
PART of the N19.5 billion special intervention fund provided by the Obasanjo administration to tackle the rot in the aviation sector, which he met on assumption of office, was well utilised by the governor in waiting. All airports which benefited from the largesse are now of international standards.
WITH his records of excellent performances at the Presidency and the Ministry of Aviation, Osun State will be too lucky to have Fani-Kayode at its helm of affairs after Oyinlola. The state really needs a smooth talker with an analystical mind as the former minister for its rapid development. The state deserves no less a personality.
PRINCE Vincent Ogbulafor, PDP National Chairman, and Alhaji Ademola Rasaq, Osun State PDP chairman, should please take note of Fani-Kayode. The people of Osun are craving for Guvnor Femi Fani-Kayode.
